Couple Celebrates Anniversary with Book on their History…and Lasting Love!
“If I can get up every morning and halfway see your mama’s pretty face and hold her sweet hand, I guess I’ll stick around awhile,” said Dave Umphress. Married 70 years on April 29, 2007, Dave and Wilma, now 92 and 87, celebrated their anniversary with a commemorative book, “Seventy Years of Marriage and Still Going Strong.” With nearly half of the marriages ending in divorce these days, their book may just hold the secrets to a long and lasting lifetime of love!
“The book is all about their life together,” said daughter Kathryn Grant, who works for Brown Books Publishing Group and oversaw the project. “It starts with how they met, when they were first married, their homes, working years and children. There are fun and poignant quotes they always say, letters from the grandchildren, lots of valuable family history and plenty of photographs.” Twenty-five books have been printed, enough for each family member to have a copy at the intimate anniversary celebration among the Umphress’s four children and extended family. The books “sold out” at the party and a second printing is in the works.
Dave and Wilma have lived in Granbury most of their lives. They have shared a love of travel and church and both have much respect and love for one another. Dave says that Wilma is the light of his life. Wilma echoes Dave’s sentiments. She says that they were meant to be together.
